In the beginning of summer last year, I attended the first of many of our usual fife and drum musters, where there is usually much merry- and music-making til the wee hours of the morning.
I had with me my lovely Tipple 2-piece D flute (old-school - with the copper tenon), and my D Sweeheart folk fife, with which I contributed to the aforementioned merry- and music-making.
A short time after returning from this event, I came to the realization that these two instruments had gone amiss, and I actually considered that they might have been stolen. So, I posted a few “lost” and “have you seen me” pictures on my facebook, in the hopes that someone might recall seeing these lost pets of mine. Alas, I received no responses except condolences about my loss.
Fast forward to last night, more than a year after these items had disappeared. The family is heading for a camping weekend, followed by a week at our timeshare in Hyannis (Cape Cod, Mass.). The luggage required for said trip is a little more extensive than our normal one-soft-bag-apiece, so I was sent to the attic to retrieve our big suitcase. As I was bringing it down the ladder, and handing it to my wife, I noticed that there was a rattling sound coming from inside the suitcase, so I mentioned it to her, “Hey, can you find out what’s in there?” By now, I suppose you can guess what was there: My long-lost flute and fife, just waiting for me to find them, and play them with glee around the campfire tonight.
Huzzah!!!
