Its part of the joy of playing music,
We all have good days and bad, and a few in between
but along will come moments of greatness,
It may come in practice, session or performance when everything just works.
The most truely inspirational moments for me are those that happen when playing with others. when everyone just gets it right, all are in sync with each other and the sounds produced, the rythmn, the clarity and the purity are simply amazing.
It may only happen to perfection every now and then, but when it does…
wow,… if only it were recorded.
One of those special moments happened for our band, last week, playing a tune we have played many times, always nice, but this time the tune Fanny Power just came alive.
the silent nod of approval from the guys indicated all had noticed the moment.
Sunsets like tunes are fleeting, but when its memorable, its lasts in the mind.
those who have experienced will know what i mean,
have you ever?
Regards
David
Yeah, it’s the best…
I met my wife online when I sold her a bass recorder on eBay. She lived in Michigan and I live in upstate NY. Once it became inevitable that we meet in person, she flew out here and we went to Lake Placid for one of the most astounding weekends of my life.
She brought along an alto recorder and I brought along mine as well as some music. From the first note, it was totally magic. We played through some of the Telemann Canonic Sonatas, and it was as if we had been playing together for years. Our phrasing, dynamics and ornamentation were all perfectly in sync. At this point there was no doubt: I HAD to marry this woman. After about 7 years, we’re still making beautiful music together
nice story Paul, since my marrage failed i have found a beautiful partner and a good friend on the internet with whom i am living for the past 18months, we share music and passion for life, she is a line dancer, and me a passionate oz, irish whistler, but still it is all good, music is unlimited and while enjoyment is there to share, the experiences are unlimited,
life is good
music , inspiration and friendship and family are life
my life is wonderful. pleased yours is too
David
Ahhh … someone who knows about those! I love the Telemann Canonic Sonatas (still have my old sheet music), but haven’t played them since attending a Dolmetsch summer recorder workshop many years ago. It’s a rush when it clicks like that … playing with someone else.
I know exactly what you’re talking about, and it’s one of the best feelings in the world. All my experiences with that come from a typical guitar/bass/drums/vocals band, so I’m still waiting for my 1st ITM moment…since I can’t really play anything yet, it’s a long way off.
As Paul knows, I have a similar story. If there is one thing that gives me a tolerance for technology, it is the wonderful life into which it has pitched me - in a way similar to that described in his post above.
As for musical instances of things just totally falling into place… my offering is just weird. We played a Burns Night gig last month. We desperately scraped the bottoms of various barrels for Scottish songs to perform, and amongst the dodgiest of the selection we contrived was a song by The Proclaimers called ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’…
Well, the crowd (about 40 people) went wild. We are now legends.
Go figure, as the ex-colonials tend to say in such circumstances…
Just last week I was playing with some friends at an open mic at my school. Before the actual performance we decided to run through the South Wind a little bit. It was me on my Reyburn low D, a violin player, a cellist, and my band teacher on guitar. We meshed completely and we all got to take some solo’s on it, it was great. The performance was good too, but that rehearsal was so much fun.
Forgot to mention we had switched up at that point, dropped the guitar, whistle, and cello in order to add acoustic bass, clarinet and trombone. But if you can see it our violinist plays a $15,000, 17th century violin.
