Whatever happened to....?

I was just thinking about whatever became of the “Silver Anniversary Set”, which was to have been made by Geoff Wooff?

Anyone know? Was it sold, and is it being played? (Mind you, I don’t think names are necessary here, just wondering the ‘what’ is all).

It was sold to a piper who subsequently found he couldn’t handle a B set it was then sold to a woman in Wicklow who, I imagine, is playing it.

Are there any photos available?

Geoff Wooff – Silver Anniversary Set

To mark 25 years of pipe-making, Geoff Wooff intends to produce a Silver anniversary set! This instrument will be ready by May/June 2003 and its purchase is open to anyone, either on or not on his extremely long waiting list. The set will be made in Black Ebony with solid Silver keys and ferrules and Mammoth Ivory mounts. His preference is to produce this ‘one off’ set in the key of B or C, but a different key could be stipulated by the successful applicant. This is a genuine opportunity for anyone to ‘short circuit’ the current 13 year wait!
Letters of interest to: Geoff Wooff, Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare, Ireland.

An e-mail from 1997:

Ted Anderson asked me to post this for him:

17" deluxe Wooff set for sale. 5 key chanter, 4 drones, 4 regs, ebony, nickel silver and dripping with ivory. Perfect condition. Geoff reckons it’s one of his best. Best offer. Set will be on view and available during the west coast tionol in San Francisco February 14-16.

From another e-mail, 2000.

I wish to announce the sale of a Geoff Wooff full C set, in African ebony with nickel silver and imitation ivory mounts.

This beautiful set was made for my good friend Bill McIntosh of Launceston, Tasmania in 1990. It was the eighth set that Geoff made after his move from Australia to Ireland, and was the second set that Geoff made for our mutual friend Bill, (the other being a narrow bore D set). Bill is reluctantly putting up this set for sale as he has lost the mobility of two fingers and feels he can no longer do the set justice. He is seeking a good home for what is a dearly loved and very special set of pipes.

The set is reeded with signed Dicky Deegan reeds for chanter and regulators, the drone reeds being made by Malcom McLaren. They don’t come any better. This is a rare opportunity to aquire a much sought after instrument, with no waiting period, by the world’s premier maker of narrow bore pipes. Offers in excess of $US4,500.00 will be considered.
