Me, its the Salamanca reel. Mainly the crans in the first part but also keeping the second octave in the second part. I was drawn to the tune when I heard it on David Power’s fantastic CD ‘My Love Is In America’(which arrived in the post yesterday). I also heard it being played by Sean Mckeon on last night’s ‘The Full Set’.
Both pipers did a great job on the tune.
What tunes are the other ‘Chiffers’ working on at the moment?
After reading the thread on Joseph McLoughlin, it made me dig out The Drones and the Chanters Vol. 2 and take a listen to his work… I was particular impressed by his version of “The Bright Lady,” especially on the B pipes… Gorgeous!
Seeing as I have a Gallagher concert-D set, and recently purchased Amazing Slow Downer, I thought I’d see how it sounds in D… Still has an amazing, albeit brighter sound. Once pitch shifted, my chanter has nearly the exact tuning of Joseph’s!
It’s going well, but man alive, some of the plaintive cries he gets out of his chanter, especially on c-natural… Nice!
I’m working on Music for a Found Harmonium, but on fiddle, not pipes. I did just learn The Morning Thrush on pipes. And there’s one I’ve been picking up in sessions, I’m not sure of the name but it might be a Crowley’s Reel.
Just finished learning the set dances “downfalls of paris” and “the lodge road”. They are excellent tunes for regulator playing.
I’ve pulled out colonel fraser’s reel. Been putting this one off but I heard John McSherry playing a live version on youtube and he made it sound great. Then again, he can make any tune sound great.
