What tune are you studying now?

I’m looking for the next tune to study.

What are folks out there working on now?

DJones

Colonel Fraser

Been paying close attention to Mick O’Brien’s playing on “Kitty Lie Over” and the SoCal Tionol CD. And been trying to fix my tendancy to rush.

Brian McNamara’s version of “The Sunny Banks,” Benedict Koehler’s 3-part “Jenny Picking Cockles.”

J.

Barry’s Trip To Paris.
The Galloglass.
Farewell To Erin.

NPs Vol. I tune: EIBHLIN A RUN

Which by the way I am playing over and over and over…just as my NPU instructors are telling me to do so.

The Bothy Band version or the other one in D? I’ve seen the D tune titled as Farewell to Eireann.

The Stoney Steps!! and you ALL know who you are

The Cuckoo’s Nest (Mick O’Brien version)

Statia Donnelly

Carrickfergus

Jig - The Corncrake
Reel - Kitty in the Lane

djm

Scully Casey’s jig, Old tipperary ( from Blas na meala )

The curragh races, the mistress ( from Ronan Browne late session)

Ole

Balamory, Pádraig Phóst, Teletubbies…

I know this is old advice, but it really is a good idea to listen to this one sung as well as the playing on the NPU vid.
imo. Liam Clancy always did a reasonable version.

As to thread topic, I’m playing a couple of favourites - Jenny’s Wedding and Trip to Durrow. Figuring how to get past the similarities in their first parts.
and I’ve gone back to ‘The Dublin’ trying to tighten up the popping (A lot)

I haven’t heard the Bothy version. I’ve listened to the Sean Potts version, and that is close to the version I am working on.

The Curragh Races / Drowsey Maggie

Bean Dubh an Ghleanna - listening to Gay McKeon, Liam O’Flynn and Ennis versions

The Ashplant

Sean Bui

Peter Street

The Harvest Home

Yes, we do.

Wedding reel (Lunasas version)
Rattlin roarin willie
Madame Bonaparte (Furey version)

And loads of other tunes as they come along…

“Castle Kelly” (reel) - totally inspired by David Power’s recent recording of it. Power’s version reminded of the great recording of the same tune by Paddy Glackin on his album with Paddy Keenan “Doublin’”

The Scholar Reel (my version)
