So I can’t find anything about Dixon pipes on the search… Can somone give me a link or a write up.. But I am considering Buying a practice set or half.. debating right now. But this will be a purchase pretty soon I think…
Well that and I am also keeping a eye out for any used practice sets and half sets at a fair deal… but the moral is I would really like to hear what peoples take on the dixon pipes are.
I guess I know he is new in relation to alot of playes… really I would love to get a “better” quality set but if I wait four years to get pipes that I could have been playing during that would be a shame to me… So who is best with a short wait…
Truth be told probably just be sitting here watching till the right set comes along practice or half…
I have a half set by cj dixon and I am quite happy with it.The chanter is easy to reed and the drones are good.My set can be seen on the home page of his website.Cocobolo with blackwood mounts. If you wish to know more you can pm me.
I also have a half set by Chris, Blackwood and Maple, also on his site. I am very happy with the set, drones are especially nice. The chanter is wonderful, I just wish my playing matched. The only problem I have had with the set is the chanter ree,d, but the problems are due to low humidity here, and my general lack of wisdom when it comes to adjusting chanter reeds. Chris is a very nice guy to do buisness with, and his instruments are great. I think he will likely be one of the next great pipe makers if he continues as he has started.
I am still waiting for the regs for my set (tenor and baritone). I talked to Chris, and he said he is re-designing his keys to make the touches wider. More on the regs when I get them in.
Here’s a few older shots from when I recieved the set in October (sorry they’re kinda big):
I would also be happy to answer any questions I can, or if you’d like more specific photos, I’ll do my best.
Well thank you for you opinions and keep them coming in and I may send some questions to a few of you by PM… Honestly I am all for hearing the positves and the negatives… If you are afraid to say something on here but feel it should be said I will take PM’s with a smile.
I’ve got a couple Dixon chanters as well and I like them alot. They compare well with the Childress, Whitmer, Gallagher and Jeffries chanters I’ve had the opportunity to try. I also have Dixon regs, but haven’t managed to reed them successfully yet, but that’s due to my limited abilities in this area.
