Hub, although I haven’t played a Dixon set, I did see and hear a practice set up close. The set included bellows, bag and chanter. The sound and quality were very nice.

Hub,I have the CJDixon 1/2 set on shown on his home page and find it very good.I recently had a chance to have Steafan Hannigan,the North American Champion try the chanter out with one of my reeds and he said it was fine with a good bark,whatever that means.The chanter is quite loud and is easy to reed.I dont think you will be disappointed with a set.
Listen to the Fox Chase and you’ll know what he’s getting at.

I owned a rosewood chanter made by CJ. I think it was No. 15. It was well made. It didn’t have the same volume as my Thompson chanter and its tone was a little mellower. I had no problems reeding it and CJ was a gentleman to deal with. My overall impression is that it was very good value for money.

I think the Prices he offers are atractiv, he seems to be serious about the choices of woods and finitions… And besides he has just 18 month of lead time…

I have a half set by Chris, was my first set of ‘real’ UPs. I really enjoy the set, made very well and beautifully at that. Plays well also.
PS Mike: got one of your reeds to work well with the stick after a few hours of enlightening fiddling with it… superb tone! Really saved my arse for a wedding last weekend, which went fabulous!
Why go across the pond when there are several makers in the south of France that will make for your climate which is a very important consideration.
