I’m having a hard time tracking down sound clips of dixon pipes other than the ones on his website. Can anyone help me out?
I can’t help you, but also am highlyintrested in hearing some sound files ![]()
I would be happy to post some clips of my Dixon set. I’ll work on it this Xmas break, and hopefully have some up in a few weeks. ![]()
Sounds good!!!
In addition to sound files, does anyone who is playing Dixon drones wish to give an evaluation of them? Their tone, their stability?
Yes sir-
The drones I have (blackwood and maple) are very nice indeed. They are rock stable, and are packed with harmonics when I get them in tune. They start up very easily, and the synthetic drone reeds are very low matinence. My only issue I’m working on right now is the bari drone, which has a bit of a harsher tone than the others, and sticks out a little too much.
I’ve only played one other set of drones other than my Dixon set, but I think his drones are very nice, and a great deal.
I was wondering if anyone has any review on dixon’s practice or half set and how they like the chanter…
I have a Dixon half set and I am quite happy with it.The chanter has no keys or key-blocks at my request so that I have to crossfinger c nat,but thats no big problem. The chanter sounds nice to me but as Ive only been playing for a year I dont class myself as an expert.I also make my own reeds and although they are not the best they sound pretty good in my dixon chanter.I find the chanter very easy to reed.
thanks I am maybe looking at getting a set. i like the way they look and from what soundclips i’ve heard, they seem pretty good.
I would think how they play is a bit more important then how they look or “seem”. ![]()
