I was given a new whistle and cant figure out what it is. It nickel, Eb, not very breathy, the fipple looks very much like a “fat” feadog head, but its got a weird bump on the fipple blade shaped like a U, from the very back (near the body) to close to the front (the blade itself) Current bets in my household say its a generation.
The bump thing on the blade sounds like the Generation that my mom got me last night ![]()
If the head is blue, it’s a Generation.
Has someone scratched the red label off the body? It’s a decal, rather than a sticky label like Waltons or Feadog.
actually, the head is black, and theres no label on it (if there was, would i be asking?)
Sounds like it might be an Oak whistle to me. Do they make a Eb?
I could be wrong, but to the best of my knowledge Oak whistles are only available in D and C.

Hi Switchfoot,
The query about the label does seem kinda stupid in retrospect
. It just seemed odd to get a brand new whistle without a label (is it brand new? You don’t say for sure). I guess the point is, we needed more information than you had given.
Generation don’t make black fipples, so that’s ruled out. Oak and Feadog do, but I didn’t think thay made Eb whistles, just D whistles. Feadog whistles don’t have a bump on the Mark III fipples, though the older Mark II ones do. Oak heads do look a lot like Generation heads, but black & shinier.
If it’s not a brand new whistle, it may be a hybrid - eg. an Oak head on Generation body. A D fipple would still fit on an Eb body, the tube diameter being the same.
Sorry, I disapeared,
No, its not brand new
Yes, it most definatly could be a hybrid (in fact, thats the most passiable option yet)
