hey all you crazy people
, i was wondering if anyone could identify a whistle for me…it was nickle, with a black plastic mouthpiece, it was fairly thin and played quite clearly and had a sticker with james galway’s signature wrapped round it. It was passed onto me by my uncle who got it years ago on his 18th bday. Its the best whistle ive ever played but thats not sayin much cause theres not much choice round here and i’m no expert! Sad to say i no longer have it, but any help on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks.
Any idea how old it is? You didn’t mention the year your uncle got it.
Maybe an Oak?
Sure sounds like an Oak to me, but on 10/7/2001 ChristianRo wrote about selling a Generation “James Galway” whistle (see:

Never saw a Gen with a black fipple, though…
Maybe it’s another “great whistle mystery”…?
Time for W-Files!
I vaguely remember seeing one in a musicshop window years ago, can’t remember the make though.I think it registered with me because around about that time James Galway had appeared on a British t.v chatshow(i think it was ‘Wogan’)and made a bit of a stir by playing a whistle, and mentioning that he’d started off on one, as a kid in Belfast.I think that some enterprising manufacturer must have quickly come up with the sticker idea to boost sales.
Well thanks for all the replies, I guess it could well have been an oak however it was thinner and lighter and played more clearly than my present Oak D, however there’s quite an age gap so maybe thats it…
Thygress…my uncle was given it in 1968 but I wouldn’t know if it was new then or not.
