We're getting a new dog!

We’ve been in mourning for nearly two years since our beloved Cedar died at the ripe old age of 18, and we’ve finally decided that it’s time to bring a new dog friend into our lives. We drove up to Fairfield today to talk to a breeder I respect, and the upshot is, we will be bringing “Wiley” home to join our family next weekend.

He’s a one-year-old miniature poodle whose owner discovered she was pregnant and was unable to care adequately for her toddler, a new baby, and an energetic young dog and returned him to the breeder. He’s a total sweetheart…outgoing and friendly, with just a hint of the rogue (typical of a well-bred poodle!). He even likes cats (which will come as a relief to Jonah, our four-year-old lap leopard!) We’d have brought him home today, but I want to make sure the house is ready for him. I’m so excited!

I remember your mentioning Cedar in a past thread. I’m glad you feel ready for another addition to your family now. Wiley sounds like a wonderful fellow with an excellent name  . We’ll definitely be waiting for some pictures. It really is quite a momentous thing to bring a new pet home. Congratulations!

I want a dog.

I want a little dog that I can carry under my arm like a football. And I want him to be fuzzy and also not move a lot. And I want him to not make me sneeze (I’m allergic to dogs :frowning: ).

Congrats on the new dog. I’m sure he’s a lovely person.

Well, poodles are fuzzy and won’t make you sneeze, but they’re not very good for carrying around under your arm. They’re athletes, who need to leap small buildings on a regular basis.

here’s hoping your Wiley has more brain cells than our Wyley (he came already named, I didn’t choose that spelling)!!!

Brains are good. But dogs’ strong suits are their hearts. Congrats, Redwolf!

How exciting!!! I envy you in a way, bringing home a new “baby” . But there’s much to be said for the old ones- it scares me when I realize that the youngest of our 5 dogs is at least 7 that we know of , and the oldest two are both 16 plus that we know of…

He’s perfect! I shall name him Philip.

nah - name him Eric…

But I already named him Philip…

Now I"m all conflicted and stuff!
