Being too musically ignorant(and somewhat lazy)to learnthe fingering on my D, i ordered a Water Weasel E natural from House of Musical Traditions a couple of weeks ago.
HMT got back to me that they didn’t have one in stock and that it was on back order.
Yesterday they informed me that they couldn’t get one because Glen Schultz has been very sick and may not be making whistles any more.
Just wondering if anyone else had heard anything about Glen?
Also, any ideas where I might be able to get a WW E nat. ?
I spoke to Glenn on the phone 5 minutes ago to confirm my visit with him tomorrow. He sounds fine, and says he’s doing fine. He was sick and temporarily hospitalized a while back, which is probably why HMT thinks he’s still sick. But he’s back at it now. Because of the several recent threads inquiring about Glenn (who is known & appreciated by many Board members) I will post an update about Glenn on Monday under a new thread.
Thanks Bob, an update would be great. Please tell him Randy in Ft Worth says hello. He recently sent me a WW and I am amazed at its quality. The sound is nothing but sweetness. It just “feels” right. And Glenn has proven himself to be wonderful to work with.
I bought the three-shaft set of WW’s at HMT 3-4 years ago, and have since gotten a couple more there. I think that each time they told me that Glenn was very sick and this may be the last batch he makes. They have had no Weasels the last several times I’ve been there.
I might also add that I’ve had spotty luck making special orders there. Some of the people who work there really don’t understand how things work.
I’m glad, since there are still a few whistles Glenn makes that I don’t own, that HMT has always been wrong.
Bob, if you wouldn’t mind, best wishes to Glenn from ‘Raymond with the cocus C’. Out of all my instruments it is easily my favorite, possessing all of the qualities I want in a whistle. And it smells good. Glenn has many of the qualities I admire in a person, and I’ll bet he smells good too.
You know you can, in fact, order whistles directly from Glenn… check his website, it has his email address. Yah, his WW’s rock…I own one in D that is possibly the purest tone in this end of the Milky Way.

Knowing that Glen has been sick, I was reluctant to contact him directly. But, since I have about exhausted all other avenues(including Tom Larson at the Whistle Shop who also suggested that I contact Glen directly),I have E-Mailed Glen and hopefully I will own one of those beauties in the near future.
Dave, how is the D in the second octive, easy to get into and stay out of? Take much extra breath or require much tonguing? I am thinking of getting another D and am currently stuck between getting a Burke Brass Pro or a Weasel.
Glenn chatted with us last night in the C&F chat room for a while. I’m happy to report he is feeling much better and is back at work make whistles. BTW someone asked him how many n’s were in his first name and he said 2.

I agree with Paul; the WW’s are really smooth-playing instruments. OTOH, I would never want to have to pick between Weasels and Burkes. The Weasel D is somewhat louder than the Burke, takes a little more pressure in the upper octave, and is a little chiffier. Get the Weasel, but definitely plan on getting a Burke sometime, too.
Just to add to the good news about Glen(n), I e-mailed him yesterday afternoon and he got back to me within the hour, what a guy! He has the whistle I have been serching for and will be mailing it to me this week.
Having read the reviews of his D whistle, I can’t help but add one to my order.My wife “thanks” you all for the encouragement to spend more.
