After reading several posts concerning what a jewel of a man Glenn Schultz is and how good his whistles are, I contacted him with a question regarding Water Weasels. I wanted to echo the thread that praises him for his correspondance and demeanor. He is a joy to work with. And the WW he sent is an awesome whistle. Last night, my wife, teenage daughter and I fought over who was going to use the WW as we attempted to play “Ass in the Graveyard” with its three-part harmony. The WW is clear in its tone, and dead-on in its tuning. But as impressive as the whistle, is the man who made it. There seem to be several craftsmen in the world of “whistledom” who are not only good at what they make, but are joys to work with. I think Glenn deserves to be at the top of that list.
I agree with you 100%. Glenn made me a divine set of Water Weasels! I can’t say enough good things about him or them. Water Weasels are the way to go if you want a quality whistle but can’t afford to pay high-end prices. Plus, because they’re PVC, they travel easily (ie, aren’t fragile).
Tomcat, any word on Glenn’s health?

Ditto! My Water Weeze is my most wonderful whistle for sessions–the low D rocks! and Glenn is a good guy, a great wit, and he writes a mean rhyming couplet as well.

When Glenn was born…I think the mold was broken…not always easy to live up to. Long may he live. Gm
I fully agree with all of the above! Known Glenn for many years, in many capacities, and love the man dearly.
I would definitely like to recommend Glenn’s book of poetry. You can get it ( either in paper, or electronic downloadable form) from:http://1stbooks.com/
Do an author search on Glenn Schultz, or the title, which is The Verser’s Curse.

Sorry, I have no update.

I’ve just made arrangements with Glenn to visit him this coming Saturday, so if anyone wants to add a Hello & Comment to this thread, I’ll print it all out, make it into a Hello Card, and take it to him.
After a convalescence, he’s recently back working full time at GM, and trying to keep up with the growing demand for Weasels in his backyard workshop. I believe Glenn to be in a continuing difficult struggle with the Demon Tobacco, notwithstanding his breathing-related difficulties.
Glenn is living with family in Oxford, Michigan, about 1 hour drive north of my part of Canada (bordering Detroit). Any Lakeshore area (or Detroit)whistlers who want to join me on the trip Saturday are welcome, just email me privately to arrange.
I recently coaxed Glenn into finally recording for posterity one of his orginal songs, I’ll Be Home Before The Dark. (The Kildare Tavern Sessiun in Windsor heard Glenn sing this accompanying himself on the Box) about 5 months ago. The tape recording is of Glenn with his family members accompanying him in A Capella 4 part harmony, and another version of the same song with Glen solo on vocal and playing his autoharp. The lyrics are typical Schultzn, beautiful wordsmithing and emotionally piercing.
Nuff said by me.
Ok, Bob, I do admit, I envy you. Would love to meet the man in the flesh. Give him my regards, as I’m a great fan of his his work - his whistles (got myself quite a lot actually) as well as his poetry. Hell of a guy, as far as I can tell.

Hey, how can one get hold of that tape, I wonder.
Claus, good question, I’ll ask Glenn about making a sampler of his taped song available.
Tell Glenn that Paul from Troy NY says Hi, and ask him to play his Christmas song for you…
