Wanted: Chris Bayley Reed Dimensions

I got a Bayley concert chanter on my work bench at the minute. It’s a Taylor copy on the outside (on the inside…?). Has anyone the dimensions?

Thanks

Has anyone the dimensions?

Yes

Will send them shortly… would I be right in assuming this chanter is from Puerto Rico ?

I do not own it. A customer sent it to me for reeding.

Chanter is Taylor based inside and out. Internally bore is narrow taper for about half it’s length and then widens out towards the bottom to boost the volume. Tone holes although slightly larger than the narrow bore sets are smaller than the majority of concert chanters

Reed as follows

Staple: Cylindrical 4.2mm I.D. 50mm long - eye should be 1.2mm high
Head: 11 / 11.5mm width tapering down to 10 / 10.5 mm at end of staple
Slip should be around 1.2mm down the centre thinning to next to nothing at
the edges i.e. a crescent.
OAL is 76mm to 78mm

I use standard hobby tube for the staple but it is spun up on the lathe to 4.2mm I.D.

I wire my reeds rather than use a metal strip

It’s always nice to see maker’s being so helpful with information. Most on this forum are; Chris B, Geoff W etcetera to name a few. SO thanks guys. I could name a few who are not of course (North of England?) but I’m sure you all know of a few.
As a fraternity it is so good to help one another out.
This is a great forum. Thanks to you all.
