Hello all, just found this wonderful site while searching for piping information. I have wanted to learn to play the bagpipes forever and am determined to start even if I have to try to teach myself. I only recently discovered the Uilleann Pipe and would like to eventually learn this instrument. I understand that a chanter is a good place to start but also that some sort of hands on instruction is a real plus. Does anyone know of someone in the Gainesville (north Georgia) area who might be able to get me started on the right foot? Thanks in advance.
you poor bastard. Don’t get mixed up with the pipes. You are only going to have years of headaches and fucking frustration. Play guitar or something that won’t drive you mad. And if you do play the pipes, don’t play uilleann pipes, play scotish pipes, you’ll be less likely to kill yourself that way. Plus I’m sure there are some highland pipe bands in your area.
Why waste time and money on Highland pipes. Those guys eventually find their way to UPs anyway. You can shortcut the process and come directly to - the Dark Side. bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Oyster, the above is a good example of what you will have to deal with when you take up the pipes and then come to this forum for help… it takes guts, will power and a keen sense of humor… (a bottle of booze wouldn’t hurt either).
