Hey all, I joined here to ask for advice on learning Uilleann pipes. How should I start? What pipe should I get?
Start here:

Then, go here:

After you have finished with the tasks which that nice man, Tony, has set you to, I recommend reading some of the ‘back-pages’ to this particular forum. You will find a vertible treasure trove of useless…uh…useful knowledge set down by the experienced players and makers (I not being one of them) of this, the worlds greatest instrument.
Once having finished with that assignment, then you can check out any of the Uilleann Pipe Makers websites out there…which you will have already come accross at:
The great and mighty website of the one and only Mr. Patrick D’Arcy…who seems to be currently suffering from a case of chronic, acute ‘humorous cerebral flatlulence’…pity, he’s such a nice man too…

I don’t think Patrick is getting enough sleep these days with the new little girl in the family. Mine are seven and four and I still can’t catch up on my sleep.
Anyway, welcome aboard Dreamerlass. Getting your first instrument can be very frustrating because obtaining it is usually a long process. Try to find Uilleann pipers in your area. I am very fortunate to have Patrick D’Arcy’s ‘So. Cal. Uilleann Pipers Club’ near me. Well it is also Larry’s (No E) and Gabriels Club.
where are you? Perhaps there is a nearby piper who can show you a set and let you have a go on them
Thanks so much for the links and welcome. ![]()
I’m in Utah.
Dreamerlass, you should try and get ahold of the Salt Lake Uilleann Piper’s Club…now where did I put that link?..
Ah, here it is…

Good luck!
Many thanks, Joseph!
I was at the Highland Games…I even saw their little tent thing…but I wasn’t so interested in Uilleann pipes then. whacks self
