Since it wasn’t on Youtube I though I’d put it here, from a recent Come west along the road (about a minute and a half in):

Thanks for posting. Marvellous playing of our unique Paddy ![]()
Lord I love that guy.
did he ever use the regulators in a recording?
this been discussed before too…never heard Moloney playing regs..
Nice.
This is a poor quality recording but you can see and hear that he does, in fact, play the regulators:

There’s also a few instances on Chieftains albums where you hear (barely) regulator being played.
Nice to hear Mr O’Carolan ask for a Moloney solo album!
never heard Moloney playing regs..
Chieftains’ 1st album 3d tr, for example.
Great stuff. Thanks for bringing it up.
The video is on youtube, though, and might load a bit quicker there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lEq6yYl17s
I saw him playing regs once. He was demonstrating the pipes backstage at glastonbury i think, on a tv programme, and he gave them a quick blast at the end of the song. Can’t find the recording though, for the life of me.
That was masterful. Thanks!
I was at Paddy’s home a few times and each time I heard him play… it was as if someone dropped a needle on a record from the 50s.
Wow! He was talking about making a solo record… Lets hope he gets around to it someday
in the tune brian boru he play’s them. i have it on the best of the claddagh years.
Well, this was in 1990 or 1991 I seem to recall, and he has released one since then. He did so in '97.
I didn’t manage to catch what Paddy was saying in the video. Can anyone tell me the name of the slow air Paddy plays before “the Blackbird” in this clip?
Wait, wait wait… what!?
Jäger: Paul Reid:That was masterful. Thanks!

Yeah, in '97 he did “Na Keen Affair”, with some friends, a few of them very well known. Haven’t given it a listen myself yet, but I know it’s out there somewhere.
We’re discussing Paddy Moloney (the Chieftains), not Paddy Keenan (the Bothy Band).
