. Really!? Have you heard me walk around and call you Belgian?
Recieved the whistle yesterday. Good work everyone.
I haven’t really had time to try it out too much yet (working strange hours) so no real review tonight.
I played it for a few minutes before work today though and initial impression is good. I don’t know how these whistles will be priced, but I take it for granted that they’ll be mid-range. I like the sound and design. It looks like one for the traditionalists for sure, like a fancy Gen type whistle, and really, it plays as such as well, like one of those really good Gens, which is not a bad thing. For the few minutes I played it, it played effortlessly everywhere, responce was crisp and the tone was like a very good, tweaked Generation, maybe a bit purer. Intonation was good as far as I could tell, I didn’t think about it, which means that it probably wasn’t too off anyway. Volume was good and the overall feeling was like, well, a very good and reliable Gen style whistle. Personally, I’d like a bit more back pressure for more nuanced playing, but this is just a matter of taste.
Next week it’s back to school for me so I’ll have more time to explore the whistle, and I’ll probably post some more about it. Just wanted to say that I’ve liked it so far, and I’m sure this one will be a big seller for folks who like the sound of the traditional Gens but find the good cheapies impossible to find. Can’t tell you if this is more than just a very good cheapie yet, but even if it’s not, a very good cheapie is something extraordinary and highly valued.
Who was the maker again? I’m confused about this and Erle Bartlett’s Black Diamond (edited: just realised this might be Erle’s whistles, if so, why haven’t I heard of it- end edit). Also, if someone can tell me, what’s going on with the Syn’s? Is Erle giving them up? And if not, why are they not on the Black Diamond website? Seems strange for one maker to have two ranges of whistles with different names and one has a website, the other one hasn’t.[/quote]
*whimpers and makes herserlf really really small, squealing “sorry I won’t do that again” *
brain has been had a bit of overload lately…
thanks for sharing your opinion henke, we will all be very interested to hear more when you have spent some serious time with this lovely whistle.
as for erle and his blackdiamond whistles you might have missed this thread : http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=31161
hope that clears up some of the fog.
I myself also was very surprised to hear who the maker was, but seems the syns have gone through a kind of evolution.
no idea if he will keep making syns but if I am right that should be in this above mentioned thread, or you could ask him yourself, he is pretty quick with answering emails.
have fun
