Did anyone else catch the report on NPR the other day (Weekend Edition, Sat. last week) that was talking about life in Falluja? They were talking about day to day life for the soldiers there. The report was done by Anne Garrels
Mention was made of a marine by the name of Lt. Col. Pat Carel (sp?) who played bagpipes - not just any pipes, but distinctly uilleann. He was playing a version of Blarney Pilgrim. Didn’t sound too bad considering it must be like a million degrees over there!
Anyway, cool report and now we have uilleann pipes to go along with the guy who was handing out whistles to the Iraqi kids a while back.
The pipes come in at approx. 2:20 into the report.
There is a photo and a note in the most recent Pipers’ Review that refers to a Lt. Col. Pat Carroll from Silver Spring, Maryland. This must be the man. He has a Hillman practice set (in the picture anyway).
I was hoping he xould get assigned here, and I could make him some drones. He is a true gentleman, and just the kind of man you want representing your country.
