Has anyone ever noticed that the chanters from Mid-East can be laid right next to a Britton chanter and the lengths and finger holes are almost identical.. Maybye this is why it makes it practical for him to rebuild the chanters… All one would have to do is run reamer through the Pakistan chanter and presto… nice sounding chanter when reeded with a good cane reed???
They are identical, or nearly identical, because the physics of sound waves moving in a column of air (chanter) dictate where the tone holes must be. The fact that they screw it up keeps Mr. Britton busy filling in and re-drilling the holes.

You can put a lot of chanters side by side and see similiar hole placement. But it is the bore thats the trick.
