Pakistani chanter surprise...! Updated!

I was having a clear-out and found an old Pakistani chanter that I decided to throw in the bin. My girlfriend questioned this, so I thought maybe I should try it before discarding it (which I hadn’t done with a proper reed…)

Much to my surprise it was a well working chanter once it had a good reed in it!
After undercutting (slightly) two of the holes it plays easily and very well in tune.
I wasn’t expecting this…

The tone is, of course, not as rich as that of my best chanters, but it actually works equally well.

That’s interesting!
Do you have a soundfile of the chanter being played?

and a picture.

Infinite monkey theorem would say that there has to be at least one half decent pakistani chanter out there.

A short sound-clip to demonstrate the tone of the chanter. No effects added:

Same sound-clip but with a wee bit of reverb added:

I replaced the original chrome chanter top and ferrule with nickel ones.

Every now and then they get it right. I’ve heard several Chanters and even half sets that have come from Pakistan.. A few of them have been surprisingly good..

That chanter sounds good. I suppose the chanters are made by different people for the company, and there must be some who by experience and care get the bore and other dimensions right.

I use a Pakistani bag and bellows with my C chanter.
It works just fine.

Haven’t tried the chanter though.
