tweaking a feadog?

I’m trying to take apart my feadog because it sounds like there’s loose plastic in there or something, and I’ve put it in hot water but it won’t come apart. I’ve tried soaking it in almost-boiling water a million times but it’s not working!!!

It worked with my feadog. Sorry, I realize that’s not very helpful, but keep trying. Good luck.

Sometimes it is tough to get a good grip to twist the mouthpiece off (since I am in the kitchen for the hot water)I use rubber dishwashing gloves to get a better grip on the barrel and the mouthpiece. I have also use Goo Be Gone (an anti glue liquid)to start disolving the glue before I put the whistle in hot water. You can also break it with a hammer than buy a Walton’s Little Black mouthpiece to use as replacement.

Sometimes a stubborn headjoint can be removed by first freezing it. Put it in you freezer for a couple of hours and then try the hot soapy water thing. Good luck.

Where do you get “Goo Be Gone?” Anyway though, I’ll also try Feadan’s suggestion about freezing then boiling. I did it the other way around. Thanks!

I’ve seen Goo Be Gone in supermarkets as well as office supply stores and hardware stores. I’m not sure where you would look in “the frozen tundra”

Cheers,
David

Alright, I did it! I was sitting in the kitchen freezing and boiling my whistle and my dad gave me the idea of putting it in a bottle of nailpolish remover. I have lots of that stuff, so I put it in there for like 1 minute and when I brought it out it pulled right off. But with the combined boiling, freezing, and acetone-ing, the outside of the mouthpiece came out looking like my great-great-great grandma’s skin. It’s really wrinkled and chunks are falling off. But the inside is just A-OK, and I didn’t even need to sand, I was just pulling out shards of plastic with a Q-tip. Then I put some sticky-tac in the back like that guy told Mr. Wisely to do, and it worked and now it sounds just hunky-dory!
