Removing the mouthpiece [SOLVED]

Hi all,
I’m sitting here the whole evening, desperately trying to remove the mouthpiece of a Feadóg whistle. Having boiled countless cups of water, I’m starting to wonder if there might be an other way to get it off, or something I can put into the water to improve the process (any magical substance, maybe). The traditional hot-water-method has worked well on any other whistles hitherto, but that particular mouthpiece just doesn’t move a nanometer. So, any suggestions how to break its resistance?
Thanks!

Flouroantimonic acid will take it off along with the rest of the whistle! You might want to ask Jerry Freeman as he probably has more experience than anyone on the planet doing so.

I tried taking the head off my Feadog with boiling H2O and ruined the head doing so. Lucky for me, Jerry was able to fix the whistle good as new.

Good luck with it.

The Feadóg head isn’t glued, so the hot wawa shouldn’t really be necessary. The main thing is to get a really good grip - I wear rubber kitchen gloves for that. Then twist - don’t pull - firmly but carefully. If necessary, ask a friend with a stronger grip. After years playing acoustic guitar, my left hand can crush walnuts.

Or search the board for the Joanie Madden Xtreme Violence piledriver method.

Here’s Jerry Freeman’s description of the Madden Smackdown:

Jerry demonstrated the Madden Smackdown for me during a visit at tweakdom central. It worked like a charm. Inertia applied.

Thanks a lot for the great advice, MTGuru (and Jerry also, of course)!!! The information that it isn’t glued at all, but just a matter of raw power helped a lot!

As the whistle concerned actually was a C whistle, the Madden Smackdown didn’t work (I don’t have an adequate counter-whistle); so I used a 16mm wrench, which I hit against the mouthpiece several times to losen it just a bit (yes, it caused some scratches… as Confucius said: you have to break an egg to make an omelette…) and then did the rest with rubber gloves, great idea that! And finally, all those pushups payed off…

So thanks again, problem solved!

Hi Cayden,

Do you have a video of Jerry doing a JM Smackdown?

I was so depressed recently.

I bought a generation and love the strong robust sound.

The G-Eb-D works well on the hot H2O.

But the C, OMG I used a goliath strength, boiling water, and pushing the D whistle inside the C and yet all I ended is a Cracked Head and still the head is attached on the D whistle.

Angel,
No, I am sorry I do not have a video of Jerry Freeman doing the Madden smackdown. WOW, that just don’t sound right.

Based on past posts here, the Gen C is a bit of a b#%&ard for head removal. Even Jerry Freeman, who removes heads for a living (I just love writing that), talks about having to crack the head to remove it, then repair it later.

I’m sure some of the more experienced tweakers (Jerry Himself, MTGuru, etc.) will chime in soon, but in the meantime, consider that it’s the whistle, not you…

Best wishes.
