I got the fipple off! Finally, after a good 20 minutes of pulling and tugging!
I’d tried when I’d first got it, but gave up after 15 minutes. But it was so out of tune!! Now I can tune it to my hearts content.
The only problem is that it might be out of tune with itself, which means all that pulling was in vain. Oh well.
I’ve tried many times to get the mouthpiece off my Feadog, and it won’t budge. Since it’s my best playing whistle, I’m reluctant to apply too much force, since I don’t want to break it.
Your whistle should be in tune with itself. Feadogs are especially good about that. If the octave jumps are okay, it should work fine. The equally tempered scale (like on a piano - a ratio of exactly 2^1/12 between the frequencies of adjacent semitones) is neither necessary nor necessarily desirable in traditional music.
I really hope it’s in tune with itself, I haven’t had a chance to really test it.
But as far as getting the fipple off, I just had to soak it in hot water for about 20 seconds, then pull on it, using a towel. I kept doing that over and over, pulling it off gradually in small amount.
You ARE doing the sticky tack thing before putting it back on, right? My self tweaked Feadog is almost as good as my O’Briain, which is very good indeed. It sounded like garbage before tweaking, though, as so many do.

Yeah, I filled the cavity in. I ran the sandpaper through it, but I didn’t see any bits of plastic when I looked in.
Look up the guitar-pick-as-blade info in the archives. Once I did that to my Feadog, it sounded gorgeous.

Thanks, Brenna! I did that, and it finally came off.
I haven’t tweaked it (except to dull the blade ever so slightly), and I don’t intend to, except for tuning. It plays perfectly the way it is.
I couldn’t get my feadog mouthpiece off for anything. I tried heating it, and it didn’t work. I even tried freezing it. Finally, when all else failed, I soaked it in nailpolish remover and it came right off. I did have to give it a good washing though.
initially mine didn’t come off…but i waited for a week or so and gave it a pull again and pop came the *weasel
i think it’s because the glue somehow melted or became less sticky?? i seem to be able to take all my fipples off easily.

*no, don’t have the money for one…yet
