Tune name generator

(posted this in the pub too but don’t know how many folks read that yet.)

So we’ve all forgotten the names of tunes, now you can make your own with my tune name generator:

Eddie

Wonder what the story behind this one would be. . .

“The Clock Road To Pussy”

I liked this one: The Glasgow Woman Lamenting Her Postman

I tweaked it a bit this morning, seems to work a bit better.

Very cute, but it has a few problems, mostly
grammatically. I don’t know if you want to deal
with categorizing the words and generating
reasonable patterns, but…

Laington’s Your Bow

Two possessives in a row is a little odd…

The Longford Boys Of Mountains

Shouldn’t that be of ‘the mountains?’

Handsome Gone Drishane

Adjective verb placename? Uhm. Interesting.

William And Be Spear

Glurk.

Anyway, you get the idea, but it’s a lot of work to fix.

Of course, I got out of it several future classics:

The Liverpool Rocking Gurteen

The Flaxdresser Woods Of Strand

McKenna’s Lawn

And the absolutely priceless:

The Coalminer’s Feet

Ha ha ha! Here are my favorites!

The Mysterious Mayo

Oh! Cow

The Priests Wish That I Would Go With the Cupboard

The Opera House

Where’s Gary?

(I don’t even know where they came up with this next one!)
The Convenience Polka

Yeah, I’ve played around with it a bit since the initial version and have tried to come up with a better method. I’ve tried using more traditional methods of text generation such as Markov Chains, but the short length of the titles don’t lend themselves to it.

The elegant way would be to feed a sample of titles into a grammatical analyzer and have it learn how to build titles, but I don’t know if I’m up for that right now.
