Slightly OT: Some of my Favorite Tunes

Well, I just thought I’d belabor an old subject and list some of my favorites from the Trad repertoire, in no particular classification. I don’t claim to play all of them, much less well if at all, but I dig 'em!

The Earl’s Stool
Swinging on a Gibbet
Boil the Bodhrán Early
Up the Spout in the Morning
Toss the Cookies
She Begs for More
Let Go of My Hand
Merrily Beat the Quaker
The Lemon Pledge
The Wise Harlot
This is My Lunch, Do You Like Her?
The Pain of Boils
The Wet Blanket
Psych Ward’s Favorite
Laid Behind the Bar
The Dark Slender Catamite
Touch Me if You Have Cash
Chinese Wedding (related to Chinese Chickens)
The Otter’s Pelt
Jackson’s Morning Constitutional
The Pantry Glasses (in MPLS, The Paltry Asses)
The Nine Pints of Roguery
Fasten the Leech on Her
The Four Quarts
The Humors of Abandonment
An Phish Filet (aka The Damp Cat)
March of the King of Leash (always a hit at leather events)
Whiskey Before All
The Gas of Beer
Shites are Sailing
Tinkie-Winkie’s Purse
The Greenbacks of America
…and my favorite set dance of all:
The Blackbeer

Sorry for the long post. What are some of yours?

Best,
N

(edited for a minor omission because some things just drive me plain nuts and I can’t leave well enough alone even though it’s something as insignificant as a missing “E” or some other less-than-substantial minutia that any other truly reasonable person would probably let slide because in the final analysis and the grand scheme of things it really doesn’t matter at all)

LOL :stuck_out_tongue: I love those.

I can’t say about whistle tunes, but our pipe band is good for re-naming tunes, to the point that we get out on a job, no one can think of the real name of a tune to tell the listeners. Such as,

Mommie Dearest(My Dearest Dearie)
Lyle Lovett( Lord Lovat’s Lament)
Castle Nemisis(Castle Dangerous-- I take credit for this one. The pipers sometimes have a terrible time with this one,so…)

you get the idea.

Congrats, Nano. Good show. happy 1K.

Some of those names are terrific, I particularly like Laid Behind the Bar and the Earl’s Stool. Very very good!

I like’em all! Imagine!
I actually know’m (and play happy most 1 of them K too)

Some more tunes with teetering names:

Navvy On-line
The Musical Beast
Music for a Fond Harmonica
Martin Wins
The Star of Monster
The Hag at the Urn
Julia Do Lay Me
This Collar
The Maid’s Behind is Bare
Test the Fathers
The Girl that Broke My Part
The Green Grooves of Erin
The Sailors Bought It

This calls for an emoticon!

Nearly spit water all over my monitor. . .

Hmm. I thought it was the Star of the Munsters.

Here’s a few that I play.

Ego Tripping Upstaris
The Wind that Shakes the Harley
Pigeon Crap on the Gate
The Broken Bottle of Pledge
The Quiche Jig
The Connaughtmen’s Rumbles
The Claritin Jig

If you find some titles in Irish you can have some fun translating them. A friend and I had a fairly big bunch of translations but I don’t remember many of them now. Here’s a few

Bainis an Phiobiere (sp?) -Banish the Pooh Bear
Bhean Tinceara-Tincture of Beans
Ceol na gCeartan-Jail is Certain
Paidin O Raifearta- Puttin’ Out Fart Rays. (I don’t know whether that means emitting them or extinguishing them.)
An Raibh Tu ar an gCarraig?- Are you and the Rabbi in the Carriage?

I wish I remembered some more because there was one that translated “I Only Fart at Seagulls” and another that went “Temple of Gelatin” but I can’t remember the Irish names.

Steve

Good show, Nano!  Very cool!

I’ll bury YOUR wife & dance on her grave
Varnish my foreskin
Waste in the bedding
Morning Wood

Don’t forget all those nameless tunes, listed as Gan Anus…

Sometimes I find myself drawn to the rugged roughness of those great tunes from the jurisprudence tradition within ITM, also, of course, known as Gaolic music. Among my favorites are:

Round the Court House
Gavel Walk
You’re a long time a-courting
Rig the Juror

But I also like the ones with simple names that keep alive the memory of their beloved namesakes:

Miss Gardner
Sarah’s Reel
Ah, Shirley

Nicely done, Nano! Looking forward to your next thousand.

Carol

It’s all Jerry’s fault. But for his infernal countdown I probably wouldn’t have really noticed, otherwise, just drifted into it somehow with a bit of fluff…

God, I feel like such a whore, now.

Don’t forget:
The Marshes of Mallow

The title of another thread reminded me of that fine tune The Gravol Walk.

Steve

 , Steve!

I’ll add “The Road to Buggleskelly”
(despite its name, a great tune)

Brad, I’m stealing that one!

T’is from the piping of Seamless Anus

Ah, surely, and wasn’t it himself that played the bejayzus out of “Crap in the Skillet”?

And a mighty setting of “Off she Got”

I almost forgot about those tunes in the haggis aisle, they’re next to the Baked Goods

Betty Crocker’s Fancy Scotch Measure
Duncan Hine’s Strathspey
Lord Entenmann’s
The Doughboys of Pilsbury
