funny names for songs

The Humours of Ballykissangel.

Sorry if those around the world don’t get it but folks from the UK and Ireland may remember the light hearted tv drama Ballykissangel. Set in Ireland, the show was about an english priest who fancied a barmaid. I remember parts of the show being unintentionally funny and parts that were meant to be funny which weren’t.

Here is my interpretation of this particular title. Played poorly on a dixon trad.

I can’t think of any other titles that might be funny… can you? and why?

You Married My Daughter and Yet You Didn’t
Growling Old Man and Cackling Old Woman
Roaring Jelly
Nail that Catfish to a Tree
Squirrel Heads and Gravy
Waxie’s Dargle

mind is going blank, but there are oh so many more…

Here are a few more:

the Private Ass and Car
Roaring Mary
Gander in the Pratie Hole
Touch Me if You Dare
Hag With the Money
Mouse in the Mug
Pull Out the Knife and Stick it in Again
Scatter the Mud
the Worn Torn Petticoat
The King of the Fairies
the Hare’s Paw
Fasten the Leg in Her

i buried my wife and danced on her grave

That sounds more like a confession than a song title.

“The Old Hag In The Kiln” - ok, so I guess a kiln can be a kitchen (or so an obscure reference at dictionary.com suggests), but I prefer to think of a furnace. And a couple of kids, just having escaped the old hag, running from the house, laughing maniacally.

Hmm… that sounds kind of familiar…

Toss the Feathers

Smash the Windows

(I almost submitted these to the wedding entrance/exit thread…)

The Cat that Ate the Candle

Chuir i Gluin Air a Bhodach (roughly translates to She Put a Knee in the Old Man)

Now I’d think this would have been a recurrent problem, back when candles were made of tallow. I’ve seen cats eat weirder things…

There’s a modal oldtime tune played around here called, “Four and Twenty Blackbirds Dancing on a Fawnskin”. (Rather grotesque imagery, actually).

‘Old hag you have killed me’

Just remembered seeing this topic in the ‘pub’ for a random Irish tune name generator

Hours of fun for all the family!

My favourite was… ‘Gordon’s under my Kinvara’

The order these titles were in the book i found rather funny, although by there selves kinda weird too

I left him on the mountain side
Cold and Raw

also…pats missing finger

The Banshee’s Wail over the Mangle Pit. (I think it’s a jig.)
I like suggestive set names (though these are a mix of jigs and reels):
Woman of the House/The Drunken Landlady/Tripping Up the Stairs.
Pull the Knife and Stick it Again/Old Woman You Have Killed Me/The Hag with the Money.
Tony

“With Ourselves”

Not a particularly great tune IMHO, but fun to bring up in a session. “Hey, let’s play…”

An Phis Fhliuch…
