transfering existing domain name to free web hosting?

Hi, all.

We’re trying to tighten up our belts a bit in preparation for the soon-to-arrive badgerette. The c. $15 a month I spend for Yahoo webhosting looks like a prime candidate for the axe.

I have a domain name and email address I would like to save (whistlingbadger.com) in case I ever need it for commercial use again. Does anyone know of a site that I can use for free, which would allow me to transfer my domain name? That would be both nifty and groovy. I would just ask my current host, but actually communicating with the behemoth that is Yahoo is kind of like communicating with the Borg. and about as productive.

As far as what I want to do with it, basically I just want a place where I can link to various other web activities (blog, cd sales, etc) and maybe add a few pictures now and then. So it doesn’t have to be all fancy. Mostly just want to preserve my domain name somewhere free if possible.

The easiest way is to find someone with a server who’s willing to let you register the DNS for your domain to a small file on their server, as in **111.1111.1111.111\Wyobadger**, with 111, etc being their IP number. If they’ll do that, you can set up a redirect to any location you like, so that when someone goes to http://www.wyobadger.com (or whatever) it bounces to http://www.Freewebspace.com/wyobadger. This might be an eaiser solution to find than finding a free hosting service that allows you to register DNS to their server.

Probably not for free. Simon’s suggestion might well be your best bet. I spend $13, and it’s well worth it, given the space I get and use.
