Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good host for a web site? I get a free one with my Internet
Provider but they don’t have a “builder”
and you must find and build it yourself and then link it to them, or something (??)
I would like my own web page that is easy to set up and easy to post tunes to also, and be free, of course. Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks, Lolly
I might recommend Freewebz or Brinkster (both of which I use), but neither offer a builder. Can’t you just use Netscape Composer to build it?
Hi
esmartweb provides 20 Mb of free space and have some simlpe building tools. They are also one of the few free sites that still allow some degree of hotlinking to mp3 and zip-files. That is, if you have a tune to share with us on this board you can post a direct link to that file here and everybody can listen to it with a mouse click without loggin on to your website.
There are also some simple web building tools that you can download for free to build your webpage graphically (e.g. CoolPage, click, drag and drop). When you’re done just ftp the files to your internet provider account. This would be the best alternative if you plan to have quite a few files for download.
Cheers!

http://www.eccentrix.com gives you something like 40 megs I think.
They have pop-up ads, but they’re not really bad about it like geocities or whatever.
They do have templates you can use to make your pages, but you’d be better off using http://wwww.webmonkey.com to learn real html and building them yourself.
My site used to be hosted on Fortunecity.
Because of their intrustive advertising, their not allowing MP3 files, and not allowing any file of over 1 meg in length, I searched at length and finally hosted with http://www.34sp.com.
They do not have a building tool, but what they do have is very low cost.

ANYONE looking for good webhosting should first go to http://webhostingtalk.com and do their research first. A webhost is a big investment - it pays to get it right the first time.
By the way, I use dixiesys.com and am very pleased with them (though I’m a moron when it comes to web design, etc).
Best,
Chris
I have been satisfied with Angelfire. The ads aren’t offensive, and they’re not popups. The builder is pretty good, and you can improve on it a lot with a little HTML knowledge. There is an HTML tutor on the site. You get 20mb of space free, and you can put MP3 files on it.

You can put mp3 files on any server. Just change the file extension to .tsp instead of .mp3 and leave a note reminding people to change the extension back when they download it.
