Thinking about making a smallpipe but need plans

Hi

I am new to this forum but it seems like a great place for people interested in wind instruments. I have been making instruments as a hobby for the last year and have been thinking about making a smallpipe, kind of in the vein of the Swedish bagpipe but as a double reed instrument.

I have some plans for the Swedish but I would like to know if anyone of you who have a smallpipe (any kind of smallpipe, nothing specific) in the key of D who could tell me what length the chanter should be, what size bore and the spacing between the fingerholes.

Also, I have some reeds for a larger conical bore bagpipe. Will they work with a smallpipe or do they need modification or won’t they work at all?

Yahoo groups amateurbagpipemakers has some very good plans. A thorough look through the posts will answer most of your questions about drilling, lathes, wood choices etc.
