While browsing in one of those “world knick-knack” stores last night, I came across a basket of Sweetones, some of them weirdly colored–lime green, bright red-orange. On closer examination, I saw they were not Sweetones at all, but said “The Woodstock, by Clarke” on them. They looked EXACTLY the same as my Sweetone, and priced $4.95 for a D and $6.95 for a C.
So I picked up a red-orange one (I had to, as an SF resident, I couldn’t help but notice it’s the exact same color as the Golden Gate Bridge). The mouthpieces were covered in shrink wrap so I couldn’t try it until I got out of the store. It was a terrible whistle. I went back and covinced them to let me exchange it for a different one. Still terrible, but by then I was stuck with it.
Has anyone else heard of these? How could it look SO much like my Sweetone and yet be so bad? It isn’t light, like my Meg (which is a much better whistle than the Woodstock), and seems to be exactly the same construction. Did I just get two bum whistles?
Too bad, because I really like the color.
