Weltmeister!

Having spent months listening to the acolades heaped apon wooden whistles and their makers and knowing that I would never be able to bring myself to buy one (my heart being stolen by the wooden Irish flute) I took a chance on an add I found at Elderlys web site. I was ordering the two CD set of Wooden Flute Obsession and was cruising the whistle adds thinking of replacing my incredably good Gen Eb which I lost when Molly the wounder horse decided to play rodeo with me. There was an add for a wooden whistle, no name, no price and a note saying to email for price. So I did and recieved a price of 29 bucks for 24 hours only. Still no name. Well what the heck. I got the whistle a couple of days ago in screaming PINK! No I dont know what type of wood it is but the fragrance is that of the pencil sharpener on the wall of my grade school class of 54. There was a small crack in the head which I fixed myself and I got it in tune and started playing. Oh baby, loud, loud, loud. The sound is similar to the first Sweat whistle in James` comparison thread. I do like this thing. It is a fun whistle. No care involved because of the varnish coating inside. So now I have a wooden whistle to go with my wooden flutes. I am happy again. Does anyone else have one of these things?

Tom

Congratulations on a wooden whistle, especially a pink one. Pink is a powerful color.

I have a Weltmeister wooden recorder, painted gold, which I purchased from Melody’s Traditional Music. I bought it to replace a Yamaha school soprano recorder. They came in 4 colors, supposedly painted to cover cosmetic flaws in the wood. I’m no expert, but I am happy with it as far as a budget (under $15, IIRC) soprano recorder goes. I have seen the whistles lately in a catalog, probably the same Melody’s, and wondered how they would sound.

Tom, I have a Weltmeister which I bought on a lark, and, despite what a lot of folks here say, I like it very much. I think it’s a good introduction, at a cheap price, to wooden whistles.
