Wooden Recorder like whistle

Has anybody seen a cheap wooden version of a whistle in D anywhere. My daughter bought one in France but had to sell it. Basically I have been listening to Jean Duval and his set of suites for a one handed whistle and think it would be easier for me to hold than mine. The shape is better for stability in the recorder shaped whistles.

Susatos come with a thumb rest that can be moved nearly anywhere on the whistle - might that help?

Yes, someone brought one to my local session. It was darkish green, thinner than most wooden whistles. He said he paid about $40 for it; I think he said he bought it at Sam Ash. I’m almost certain it was wood. It was probably this one although I note that Sam Ash also carys another model by the same maker.

Pretty sure these are the same whistles known as “Weltmeisters”.

If that’s the case, I’ve played one for a few minutes..was very loud, and second octave was really hard to hit, if memory serves.

I won a Weltmeister in the recent posting competition. I don’t have it beside me now but I’ll get a chance to compare it later. Superficially at least they look very similar.

I think my Weltmeister is made from one of the fruit-tree woods favoured by recorder makers but it could be maple I suppose.

I’ve just checked. Those instruments do appear to be identical. The Weltmeister isn’t particularly loud and is a bit like a Clarke original in playing characteristics. Note though that I haven’t oiled it so maybe my impression would change if I did. If you are looking for a light whistle, Generations are lighter.

It’s quite a lot fatter than a Clarke original, Selkie. The bore is cylindrical but even compared to the widest part of the Clarke, up near the fipple, the Weltmeister is significantly fatter. Not quite recorder dimensions I suspect, but I don’t have a soprano recorder to compare.
