Today, June 17th, I will be presenting a program on some of the stuff I do for a living (adolescent psychology) as a live satellite webcast beginning at 11:00 a.m Central Time. This is a program sponsored by the Alabama Department of Public Health.
Back home. That was an experience. I’m told about 10,000 people saw the program in at least 45 states. I’ll get the link to the on-demand video as soon as it’s up.
Trouble was, I wasn’t sure I should become a member of the Alabama Public Health Training Network, which is why I didn’t sign on, but do post the vid when it’s up.
I’d like to thank all of the little people who helped me on my way to the top of show biz. I’d like to share a little piece of this award with them. This little piece right here on the bottom. Like this little rim around the base of the statue. About, you know, half way around the statue. I share that with all of you.
I had this playing this playing in the background this afternoon while I was cleaning up my paperwork.
I especially liked –
I won’t tell you I understand what you’re feeling, but I want to. I want to get as close to your world as I can without living in it.
Dale, are there some books you especially like about talking with teens? My kid is 12, and the tone of our interactions seems to be changing. Lately I’ve noticed myself nagging, whining, making threats, being smug and sanctimonious, minimizing, freaking out – all the things on your “do not do” list. I need an upgrade of my parenting software.
This was a wake-up call. I mean, I KNOW you’re Alabaman and all, but the little voice I hear in my head when I read your posts - you know, the one we “paste” onto someone’s writing (well, I do, anyway. I don’t know if that’s crazy, but I won’t ask for a free diagnosis from you) - always sounded…well…Minnesotan. Please don’t be offended. Anyway, I’m pretty sure that’s over and done with from now on.
Zonealarm says tinyurl is a spy site and won’t allow it to be opened. I guess I’ll have to take your word for it that you were somehow brilliant in your erudition.
Deej, tinyurl is just a very useful and popular redirection utility that converts humongously long links into something short and reasonable. I use it all the time for sharing long links. Sounds like the ZoneAlarm default is overly cautious.
TinyURL can be used to obfusticate, but why worry if you trust the link provider - i.e., Dale. In this case, it just takes you to his full link at:
For the paranoid, go to the http://tinyurl.com home page and enable the preview feature as a browser cookie. Then whenever you go to a tinyurl link, you’re first presented with the fully resolved target URL which you can choose to accept or reject.
