Today on our way into town (we live 22 miles away from the nearest grocery store) my dear hubby and I were talking about our plans for March. He said…“How would you like to go down to Milwaukee for a one day jaunt on Wednesday March 17th!!!” I screamed…“WOULD I!!! NOT ONLY DO I KNOW OF UMPTEEN BARS THAT SERVE GREEN BEER WITH IRISH MUSIC ALL DAY LONG…BUT I WANT TO BE ABLE TO FIND SOME SESSIONS THAT WILL PROBABLY BE GOING ON AND I’LL TAKE MY WHISTLES!!!” (My excitement is because I am a native Milwaukean, living in the boonies of Northeastern Wisconsin…NO IRISH BARS, NO WHISTLE PLAYING, except by me )
Then…I glanced over at my hubby..and he had this strange look of terror on his face!
What HE wanted to do, was go down to Milwaukee to get into the sports show for free…because he is handicapped…and look at THOUSANDS of fishing lures, dead animal carcasses…and gun and killing stuff. (I am not the outdoors woman…as you can tell)
I said…that’s ok…I’ll just drop you off…and I’ll pick up my Mom…and we’ll go to the bars!!! (He was NOT amused)…
He REALLY didn’t like it when I asked how long he was going to be at the sports show…cuz I could really jaunt down to Chicago and be in the St. Paddy’s day parade..
Sounds so familiar. At least at my house the terrified look has been replaced by the Resigned Look. Fortunately we have satellite and she finds solice on Lifetime and Lifetime Movies and we still set aside time for each other.
Maybe I should consider a visit with the grandkids. My son-in-law likes music and bars while my daughter is tired of fishing lures, beastie trophy parts, and lots of stuff in the freezer she doesn’t want to cook or eat. Maybe there’s a plan forming. Milwaukee. . .
My hubby doesn’t share my passion for traditional music of any sort, but I have to give him credit…when I mentioned that May 1 is on a Saturday this year, so I’ll be out with the Morris Dancers pretty much all day and into the night, he said “Great! If it’s on a Saturday, I can go watch!”
If I want to do it- I do it. If he wants to come along- fine and dandy.
If he does not want to come along(and he rarely does) - I go anyway.
Either way, I’m going- that’s not an option.
I will be spending the holiday time marching in the St. Pat’s Day parade in Roanoke, they have a number of pipe bands (ours being one of them) after which they have a Celtic fest. downtown with good music, plenty of drinks and food, etc. We usually check out a little pub on a backstreet too.
Then Sunday we will be playing the local catholic church’s St. Pat’s day festivities- plenty of drinks there too, although I haven’t seen the beer turned green at that one.
I’ll be done in by Mon. morning when I’ll have to drag out to work…
