Like a good lil whistler, everything I know, I’ve learned by ear, but Plough and the Stars absolutely kicks my butt. I’m desperate…does anyone have it in written/paper/note-y type format?
This tune is one of the reasons I learned to play the whistle in the first place…I love it! Funny that 6 years later, I’m still clueless on it!
There’s a very fine version of The Plough and the Stars on the album “Live from Patrick Street.” I wouldn’t have mentioned it had it not been for the fact that it’s a really good album. I was actually at one of the concerts (in Exeter) at which they were doing the recording. I can’t really tell whether they used any of that particular evening’s recordings for the final album, but I’ll swear that was me coughing (deliberately) during track7…
Wow, thanks, all! Such friendly and helpful folks!
To DJM: That was a terrific site…I meant to just do the first search, got sidetracked, and was still there 45 minutes later. Thanks bunches! I’m set up for quite a while, now. LOL!
To Rob: Your post prompted me to take a 30 minute crash course on ABC. This seems like it will be handy in the future–seems like a HECK of a lot of people use it. (Btw…your site was very helpful, too! If you need a place to move to, I have 5 sub-domains that aren’t doing anything. You’re more than welcome to one! )
To SteveShaw: Heheheh… >:) You’re rotten! I’ll need to look that version up–the only one I’ve actually heard is by the Gallowglass Ceili Band. Was also wondering…are there any online samples of your playing? I poked around your pages and couldn’t find any. I’m not sure I’ve heard Irish music on a harmonica before, sounds fun.
