The best thing...

Do you know what the best thing about the Chiffboard is?
Whenever I’m done here, I want to go out and whistle!
It has always been my goal to be a little different, instead of just imitating what everyone else does. Must be the 60s in my genes. Whistling is different. What I never bargained for, however, is that my “differentness,” to whatever extent it goes, also separates me with fellowship with others, because they all like “sameness.”
So, you all are a great comfort and encouragement to me, as I would otherwise be whistling alone in the center of Indiana–electric guitar country!

Thanks!

What’s “different” about whistling? Gosh, EVERYONE whistles in Ross-on-Wye. You have to whistle to be allowed in.

i’m the only whistler around here. i’m often the target of some well placed comments… however, not long ago i told everybody i was from a small village named Hamlin, and i’ve a keen interest in children… for some reason the comments have stopped…

hmmm…

be well,

jim

There’s a cure against being a lonely whistler - since it’s contagious, you just need to infect the right people, and off you go together. (I know it’s not always that easy - but it works sometimes.)

On a similar note, but somewhat OT, I really have to thank Guido Gonzato for his excellent instructions for making his famed LowTech whistles - I’ve just done a school project, and now every single one of my students has his or her own self-made whistle. Well, some of them also did tube fanfares with trombone mouthpieces and also a sort of “whistle trombone” - that’s right, whistle head, trombone-like slide instead of holes - really funny looking, and considerable fun to play and listen to, too (Jerry Freeman provided the mouthpieces - he’s a great guy, in addition to being a master tweaker…). BOT: At least some of the young people were really intrigued. Some of them won’t put down the whistle again in a hurry…
