Does anyone know if Erle is still making Syns in the E, Eb, D, C, B, Bb, A set anymore?

I e-mailed him a few months back, and I was able to still get a full set from him. Go ahead and shoot him an e-mail…it never hurts to ask.

I contacted him a while back too and was under the impression that he’d like you to try Gaelic Crossings first, and if that doesn’t work he’ll sell you what you want

Go straight to Erle for the full set of keys. Direct is the only place to get the set - it has a waiting time but is well worth the wait - and it’s not as long as some :slight_smile:

Anyone know if Erle would make/sell a single key of A? I’ve only seen it mentioned in the full set.

If he’s still got it, I’m almost sure he would sell a single (Head is like US$40, with bodies around US$10). Really a nice guy. :thumbsup:

Anything that is a D, a C, a C/D set, or a C/D/Eb set is handle by Erle’s distributors - the rest ( e, a, b, full sets etc) are handled by Erle.

The A is pretty weak, though… the bore is really too narrow for one that long. If you’re playing quietly by yourself it’s fine (and has a very sweet sound) but if you push it at all it is not happy.

My A is the long tube in the picture on the main Chiff & Fipple site in the “high-end whistles” survey.

Thanks, shortly after I made that post Erle PM’d me and said pretty much the same thing; that they are available directly from him but that it would be a very weak and quiet whistle. Great customer service Erle has, a true gentleman.

I don’t know about a weak A. When mine warms up, it sings wonderfully. And I third that…Erle is awesome.

I agree, Erle is the best (tied with Michael Cronnolly and Phil Hardy).
I also agree that the Syn A is very good. It’s got a different character than the D for example, but it’s a darn good whistle in it’s own respect. It’s not as powerful as the D, but it’s definately not one of the weakest whistles I have. It’s very sweet, I love it.
I love the whole set by the way, they’re all extremely good.
