I just bought a Syn C/D set. The head joint does not seem to want to fit all the way into the C body. Is this normal? The head fits the D body just fine.
I have a set with D, C, A, and Bb. The head fits all the way in all of the
bodies. So I’d have to say that yours is not normal. You should contact
Earl.
The real question is can you get it in tune without it going all the way in? Or is it not going in at all. If you can play it in tune then there’s no problem really… unless you are wanting to play sharp.
I’ve had a set for a week: C, D, Eb.
The head fits all the way onto all three bodies. BTW, how do you like it?
Its in tune ok. Also, the mouth piece is not straight. Anyone have Earl’s name on this board so I can shoot him a PM? I love the whistles, I really do. Especially the C.

Let us know what he says. my C body doesn’t fit the headjoint well either. It’ll go all the way together, but acts like it doesn’t really want to. I seldom use it, so I haven’t said anything.
I purchased the D/C set last fall. Finishing up school and work left me little time for whistling until recently, so my Syn problems weren’t a big issue.
Anyway, I have the opposite problem, my C tube is very loose. I’ve applied very little cork grease to form a seal and that seems to have solves that problem. I do have to wrestle with it to get it to fit into the D tube, however.
I also have a fipple issue, the windway seems crookedly shaped, much wider on the right side than on the left. While I don’t know if it matters, I should note that I purchased the set from Gaelic Crossings rather than from Erle himself, before I knew how to contact him. I sent him an e-mail yesterday, now awaiting a reply.
Hmmmmm. I sent an email and have not heard back from him yet, but with the time difference between Australia and the US, that is probably normal. I finally did get the head to fit the C tube, but it took some effort. Now all I have to do is figure out a way to fix the fipple problem. I am tempted to try to just shave it down myself, but I am a bit scared to.
If Erle can’t fix the problem, just swap bodies ![]()
I have recently received the SYN D&C set from ozwhistles and found that the mouth piece and bodies fitted perfectly.
Although I am a complete novice with the whistle, I have found these to be great and easy to play in both low and high octaves, although it does need a bit of extra breath.
Bought a Freeman Tweaked Generation D as well and found that this is really sweet on the higher octave as well.
I have a Bb, C, D, Eb set and the head fits perfectly on all four. I did, however, also get a set for my young lad and had to do a wee bit of sanding to the tuning slide to get them to fit but they work fine now.
I think they are great whistles and humungous value for money.
