I have just watched this, an hour long program. Look out for it, or watch on the BBC i player from the website, if it is there, Great stuff indeed.
Pwt
Ps , as an edit, they have a consecutive program called Folk Hibernia, just started, that charts the revival/popularisation of Irish folk music. Listening now, sounds good too.
Sorry that is so. The second program was really good. FWIW, The Chieftains program is being repeated on BBC 4 tonight at 8.30 pm GMT. Maybe you can watch via a sattelite system?
For those who can use the i Player, they will be up for a further six days, with the second program downloadable to pc for a more extended period.
Yah, excellent stuff! I was up till around two in the morning watching it all on the good olde BBC, I would like to see more of the Irish,Celtic, and folk music programs been broadcast, all the best.
They were both excellent programmes.
I especially enjoyed folk hibernia ,a full hour and a half of the development of music in Ireland with footage of Willie Clancy, The singing/piping McPeake’s and Paddy Keenan.
Martin Hayes gives a great insight into Willie Clancy’s music,What he was saying was that at the time not many were listening to the music of Willie Clancy and so there there was no pressure to play a certain way or to please a certain audence and so the music was pure and unaffected.
OH YES, please
This kind soul could let us know that he/she uploaded it just for some days and then take it before the fussy guys come with the copyright claiming, bla bla bla
The program has been repeated again over the last week, keep checking
BBC 4 programs, the programs have been shown late on BBC 4 around 12.30am UK time.all the best.
