On the tellie (RTE) next week (nov 8 ): Paddy Moloney : Chieftain
Wish this was available in the UK ![]()
Maybe on RTE player.
Player is linked in OP, click (RTE). Some may need proxy server.
Mr. Gumby, is there a way that we who live in the states can access this broadcast, even after the fact?
Sorry,I replied hours ago but don’t see the post now. Perhaps it ended up in a different thread.
Anyhow. RTE usually leaves programs available on-line for three weeks on the RTE player. I don’t know about the availability outside Ireland, that seems to vary and may require a proxy server to get around. I’ll post a direct link to the program once it goes up next week.
Thanks, Mr. Gumby. Your link effort is appreciated. It looks like Paddy is playing a Sindt in the photo. Interesting…
The program is now on the RTE player : Paddy Moloney : Chieftain
I missed the first 30 minutes or so of it last night, will have to watch that later, what I saw was nice enough, the man himself, and his wife Rita, reminiscing about the times with the Chieftains interspersed with archive material.
Moloney is 78 now and shows no signs of slowing down. It is sort of interesting that before one of the first concerts I saw them at, the MC joked they had arrived using the free bus pass. That was in 1972/73 or so. To some of us I suppose they were a bunch of aulfellas from the get go.
Speaking for myself, I was never the Chieftains’ biggest fan, some of their material is just lovely, some of it doesn’t speak to me much. By the time Molloy joined them I had moved on from them and I am, to be honest, not very aware of what they’ve turned out since. So, in a way, it was good to hear the stuff in the program and sort of re-assessing the whole thing with different, perhaps more mature but certainly more experienced, ears.
Anyhow, there you have it, I don’t know from where the program is accessible but a proxy server may be needed.
Darn it… I am being politely told that I cannot listen to this in the US of A.
Our loss.
No, it doesn’t play here USA. RTE’s loss with viewership. Oh well.
It’s not playing for me in the UK either and I signed up to RTÉ thinking that would solve it but unfortunately not, pity.
Quote From RTÉ (Due to rights restrictions, some programmes cannot be viewed outside of Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. Overseas viewers can watch a selection of RTÉ programmes that are cleared for international audiences on RTÉ Player).
RTE’s loss with viewership
Not really, RTE is the national broadcaster, its responsibility is to those who pay the license fee. That aside, it’s more often the company who is responsible for producing a program that dictates where a program can be watched, not RTE in this case. They may well have an eye on selling the film to the States for broadcast.
But of course everything’s “global” now. ![]()
