Saturday 26th of January,at 9-45pm on TG4 ,there is a half-hour documentary about Paddy Moloney .
I asked this recently about the radio, but are these programs available to people outside Ireland via the internet?
If they are not ,I will not notify the forum of other up coming programmes as it may just annoy some people .
The music programmes broadcast by TG4 are usually available on the website www.tg4.tv within a few days of the broadcast. When you get to the website, click on carthlann ceol (music archive). You’ll then have a list of all programmes over the past 3 or 4 weeks.
I’ve already seen this episode and it’s excellent. Lots of Chieftains and lots of piping. Paddy does a duet with Kevin Rowsome (both playing Leo R concert sets). There’s even some footage of Leo in his workshop turning a chanter and smoking a woodbine (or is that smoking a chanter and turning a woodbine??). In any case, it’s a great programme. Kudos TG4 for making stuff like this available to us expatriates.
Did you watch the documentary the other night ? it was very good .
It was interesting to hear how Paddy got his early musical education and how he helped form the Cheiftains.
He was so enthusiastic about all the young pipers playing at the moment and how Irish music has taken on new life, like some new golden age, this was about the time that Micheal Flatley was dancing with the Cheiftains.
Who was the man that Paddy was talking to most of the time ,he had some probelm with his voice?
Sean Mac Réamoinn - he worked with Seamus Ennis in radio in the 1940s and 1950s. He died last year. Here’s his obituary from the Radio Eireann website:
