Space Shuttle and Space Station Photographed Together

I wonder who snapped that photo, though.

It was shot in a studio fer shure.

It vas da Russians!!!

I just wonder why the shuttle would dock in that position, with stuff falling down to the back of the spacecraft and all. You’d think they woulda figured these things out by now.

surely it is so that the shuttle can help hold the thing up, no?

Why couldn’t it just land on one of those big flat panels? Seems it would be a lot easier to take off from there. I noticed that Canadian-made robotic arm was broken again, jeez!

Well, you know how it goes. The good parking spaces are already taken. You see, they docked just after the early evening rush, and just before that pic was taken, four other shuttles had already taken off from those panels, leaving them with a silly looking parking. Just typical, init?

I am surprised that the solar panels are shading each other rather than in a different configuration/orientation.

Those arrays are almost constantly moving to track the sun but they also have to use battery back up for about a half-hour every 50 minutes or so as they zip around the earth.
