So it sounds like the date is set! We’ll be flying back to get married June 21st in Havre de Grace MD. For those of you who aren’t familliar with the town, it’s about 40 minutes north of Baltimore.
And here’s the deal: I know Lee Marsh might make it up, as he’s just down the road in D.C., but I’d like to offer an open invitation to any and all C&Fers in the area to come out and play!
Now, I’ll be traveling over 2,500 miles to get there, so I don’t want to hear any excuses abot it being too far!
Seriously, if you think you might be able to make it out, I’d love to have you!
Let me know if you need more details…
Bri~
So Bri ~ what time’s the wedding? Gm
Hi GM!
We’re probably shooting for late morning/early afternoon sometime, though it depends somewhat on when all of my family can make it out too. You’re not planning a trip to MD are ya Betty???
You’re not reneging on your invitation are you? Just might be in Allentown PA…only 130 mi from there…
Brian!
Hey, I’m planning on being out in DC to visit my brother for Independence Day. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to swing your wedding in there somehow!
Tom
GM,
If nothing else, Heather and I were heading off to our family cabin in Pine Grove Furnace, about 18 mi out of Gettysburg, PA after the wedding for a few days.
Sort of a honeymoon, sort of just time to get away and enjoy solitude and quiet. I’d LOVE a visitor though! If you can’t make the wedding, think about dropping by the cabin OK!
And Tom, we’ll look at details when I see you in Denver. This might be SO COOL!!!

B~
Hmmmm…265 miles door to door. . .
Now T.,
I drive that to get to Mack’s place for our Rocky Mountain Sessions!
See?
NO excuses! LOL
B~
The cabin sounds like a neat idea (what every bride wants…visitors) and a whole lot closer…7 mi closer…to be exact…
Hey, 7 miles is seven miles! If you figure the time it takes to drive 7 miles at average highway speeds, taking into account the potholes on the PA Turnpike, divided by the square root of pi, and factor in the gravitational pull of the moon at solstice, I figure that’s exactly enough time to play a set of two jigs, a fast reel, and a good slow air! Whatcha think?! LOL
Well, since Ireland will be our “official” honeymoon in about a year or so, the cabin is just gonna be some much needed R&R for the both of us. We’d BOTH love a visit either way. Heather plays flute, whistle and fiddle too, and she’s starting on the bodhrán, harp, bones and the uilleann pipes! Pretty soon, she’ll play one instrument for every tune I know!!
So either way, come bisit us, and the craic will indeed be mighty!!!
B~
Hey Brian,
I wonder how many whistle makers I could stop by on the way to and from the East coast, from the West coast? My wife does want to make a road trip, but the kids and I are in school until the end of June. Hope lots of people show up!
By the way, the Summer Solstice will occur at 9:24 AM (EST) on the 21st, according to my Old Farmer’s Almanac.
Take care,
John
Gee…with all that talent…i’d marry her too. We’ll see what develops between now and then…we’ll work on the cabin bit…Gm
You got it John!
9:24 is th magic moment. And for added oompf, the planet Mercury is at it’s greatest elongation from the sun at 23 degrees west of the sun at magnitude +0.6
I know this doesn’t mean much to most folks, but working in a planetarium for so many years one tends to follow this stuff. Doesn’t really matter at all to be honest!
I’m all for the cool pagan rituals surrounding midsummers day myself. They say if you run naked on grass covered with dew on midsummer’s day-morning, you’ll be fertile for life. Man the druids were some crazy dudes! LOL
B~
That may be, Brian, but what good will the added fertility do you when you’re in jail for indecent exposure?
Tom
p.s. Please, don’t answer that question.
GrannyMouse, does than mean you’ll be swinging by Deadwood so I can hitch a ride with you?
Sure, Anna…if you don’t mind leaving the end of April and coming back the end of September!
