My Irish Wedding...

So it’s official!

I’m gettin MARRIED!!!

My beautiful Irish lass and I have picked June 21st (summer solstice) to be wed on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay in my grandmother’s town of Havre de Grace, Maryland. My question is this:

Have any of you had an Irish themed wedding? We’ve gotten some good ideas, but I’d be interested to know if any of you have first hand experience in this. We’re trying to keep things VERY simple, and very old world-ish.

Heather (my fiance), is making her own dress for example, not in the French style white, but in a beautiful deep blue silk, trimmed in hand embroidered silver thread Irish knot work.

Anyway, just wondered if any of you might have some suggestions.

Slainte!

Bri~

P.S.

If any of you are in the area…I would LOVE to have you come out! We’re planning on having a mighty party/session afterwards!

Brian,

Many congratulations! What wonderful news! I wish you both the very best.

Dave

Congratulations Brian! Please let me know what you find out, as I wouldn’t mind having an Irish themed reception myself =)

Brian, I have a book on Irish weddings. I’ll look for it tomorrow and get the title to you.

Brian,

I have no help with the wedding, but I do wish you many years of happiness. Congratulations.

Erik

Brian, again, congratulations! I can’t wait to meet her! May God bless your wedding and your marriage…

Tom

Congrats!!!

I have played for this kind of wedding. We mainly played while people were being seated. We played mostly slow airs. We had a guitar, a mandolin, and a whistle.

John

I am so thrilled for you, Bri! Congratulations! You’ll just have to share pictures with us. My love to you both. Gm

Hey, that’s Great Brian! Congrats and best wishes to you and your bride to be.

Ok, here’s the book on Amazon.

It can give you a lot of great ideas.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing the romance of your simple (is that really possible) Irish wedding!

Brian, blessings and congratulations! (Short version of what will be lavished on you both the 19th.)
Mack

Brian, that’s great! Blessings!

The Chieftains have an album “Celtic Wedding” but have no idea what’s on it. Gm

Thanks so much you guys! Heather and I have had a great time reading all your kind wishes!

I’ve even thought of trying to compose a short piece for my bride-to-be and play it for her during the ceremony on the whistle, but we’ll see how brave I get!

So it sounds like there weren’t any interesting customs I should be immediately aware of, like human sacrifice, or lighting all the neighborhood cats on fire. Just thought I’d check!

I would seriously like to invite any musicians in the area to come out and play either at the wedding, or at the session afterwards. I do hope it’ll be MIGHTY!!! And no excuses about it being too far to go…I’m coming from Utah for heck’s sake! LOL

Anyway, thanks again for all the kind words! My…OUR love to you all!

Bri & Heather~

Congrats to you and your lovely lass Brian, to bad you aren’t having the wedding in SLC The Rocky Mountain Boys could have given the groom away

Congratulations. Joy & music always be in your hearts. God bless you both.
