My beautiful Irish lass and I have picked June 21st (summer solstice) to be wed on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay in my grandmother’s town of Havre de Grace, Maryland. My question is this:
Have any of you had an Irish themed wedding? We’ve gotten some good ideas, but I’d be interested to know if any of you have first hand experience in this. We’re trying to keep things VERY simple, and very old world-ish.
Heather (my fiance), is making her own dress for example, not in the French style white, but in a beautiful deep blue silk, trimmed in hand embroidered silver thread Irish knot work.
Anyway, just wondered if any of you might have some suggestions.
Slainte!
Bri~

I have played for this kind of wedding. We mainly played while people were being seated. We played mostly slow airs. We had a guitar, a mandolin, and a whistle.
Thanks so much you guys! Heather and I have had a great time reading all your kind wishes!
I’ve even thought of trying to compose a short piece for my bride-to-be and play it for her during the ceremony on the whistle, but we’ll see how brave I get!
So it sounds like there weren’t any interesting customs I should be immediately aware of, like human sacrifice, or lighting all the neighborhood cats on fire. Just thought I’d check!
I would seriously like to invite any musicians in the area to come out and play either at the wedding, or at the session afterwards. I do hope it’ll be MIGHTY!!! And no excuses about it being too far to go…I’m coming from Utah for heck’s sake! LOL
Anyway, thanks again for all the kind words! My…OUR love to you all!
