Software?

Is anybody familure with software that will convert the music (.wav/.mp3) into sheet music? I have one for midis, but am wondering if there is other software out there?

I use Autoscore for transcribing my live whistle playing into sheet music and MIDIs. There are severe limitations–the biggest one is that only melodies are parsed, a second is that vocals parse poorly. Chords are not recognized so 95% of commercial recordings will probably not parse. Also, like scanning software’s optical character recognition, it is far from perfect, even when doing melodies only. That said, it is a lot better than trying to transcribe by hand.

A quick search turns a site for the publisher, Wildcat Software. However, the copyright is 1999 and an out of stock message comes up, so take that for what it is.

What some people have taken to doing with whistle solos is using a slowdown program plus a tuner (either program or electric tuner) to get each note, one at a time. Labor intensive? Yes, but if there is a tune that a person really wants to learn, it is one way to go.
