Converting Sheet Music

Hi,is there a piece of software that can convert sheet music into ABC format.

There are several that will allow you to scan in music and it will convert it to midi files and the corresponding notation per that software. Finale will do it because it incorporates a light version of a more robust software called SmartScore I think.

Don’t know of any that will convert it back to ABC though.

ABC is pretty trivial to learn and very easy to type in by hand. I’ve actually given up writing out tunes unless I need to write something down and I’m nowhere near a computer – entering ABC is much faster than writing out music longhand.

Of course, that doesn’t help get the sheet music into a computer if you cannot read music!

I like Jim Vent’s software, ABCWin. It’s getting even better with his beta program, and you now have the option of choosing a midi player of your choice ( I prefer ABCMus ).

Yes. ABCWin does that too. It has an ABC build section and then it produces a very clean sheet music display.

Your link is great though, as it provides a way for anyone to produce sheet music. I’m going to add that to my list of options on my website.
