On another thread, Blayne mentioned the group called Siúcra. I got to see this group at the Milwaukee Irish Fest back in August. I saw them the first evening and they were so good I returned to see them each of the next two days. Dynamite with lots of energy and tremendous talent. Blayne if one of the members is your mentor, you are one lucky person.
I see from their web site that they will be in Grand Junction, Colorado next week. If you get a chance go see them, you won’t be disappointed. Three people playing flute (just a bit of whistle), bodhran, and guitar. Their new album is one of the best I’ve heard this year. I just found their website and discovered they were in Lincoln, Nebraska not long ago and I missed them. Bummer! I’m now on their email list.
A Very Siúcra Christmas performance section of Main Street Bagels! 559 Main Street in Grand Junction; (970) 241-2740 Last year was our first performance at this lovely little venue - can’t wait to return
Thurs, Dec 12, 7:30 pm Grand Junction, CO
I saw them at last years Grand Junction Celtic Fest too, with Mack Hoover. Indeed a great group, with a very hot sound. Chatted with the flute/whistle girl for some time after the event.
I wish I’d have known they were going back to GJ, It’s only a four hour drive from here, and worth it to see Mack if nothing else!

Sorry Jim I should have let you know. They had a pretty good house concert from what I hear (I had a sick kiddo and wife and couldn’t go). By the way there is a dance this weekend and we will be a few band members short if you want to come whistle or mando feel free to come
I had this coming weekend marked on my calender and I’m still thinking it will work out. Don’t know about playing but would the band let me record y’all so I can come home and practice for next time?
Hey Jim… Sorry to not reply sooner… I’m out skiing here in Colorado… I thought I’d just check in… Yep, Shannon Heaton of Siucra is a good friend & mentor… She’s been very helpful and influential in my trad studies… I’ll be seeing them soon at "A Very Siucra Christmas!
