Matt and Shannon Heaton

I just found a CD by Matt and Shannon Heaton, called dearga.
I’ve never heard of them before, but it’s a really awesome CD!
You can listen to parts on http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/msheaton

It’s mostly flute and guitar, with some guest performances on other instruments.
Most of the tunes are original rather than trad, but sound trad.

Has anyone else heard of these two?

Apparently they are now touring with Aoife Clancy (formerly of Cherish the Ladies), and used to be in a band called Siucra

Best,
diana

Thanks for the tip. Great flute playing.

If you’re in the Boston area, they’ll be playing at the Boston Celtic Music Festival (BCMFest) next week, Jan 9 & 10, as well a lot of other really great Boston area ITM musicians. See www.BCMFest.com.

Matt and Shannon began their Suicra career in the Boulder area and influenced greatly many of the musicians in this area. They started a slow beginners session in Loveland that continues on. I’ve been to two Suicra concerts and have one of their CDs. Great stuff! They moved to Boston to be closer to the hub of Irish Music but frequently come back to Colorado. Blayne of Whistle and Drum takes lessons from Shannon whenver she’s in town.

Shannon Heaton was interviewed on Celtic Sojourn this past weekend. She noted that Suicra still plays together for about 5-6 performances per year and the band is still together. They just don’t get to play together all that often due to the long commute between Boston & Boulder.

Cheers,
John
