Which maker has the shortest wait time to buy a new set from?
Thanks,

I think Nick Whitmer has a lead time of approx. 4 months. Less than that, I’m not sure the wood of the chanter would have sufficient time to dry after being turned.
Nick’s prices are good, as is his reputation. Check out his site:
Seth Gallagher has a 10 months waiting list.
I think it’s also important to understand that wait list times can be somewhat flexible.
If a pipemaker got a slew of orders in a short time frame, that could push things out a bit.
It’s always best to check with the maker to see what’s in their pipeline and what their expectations are upon ordering.
I remember a story fro ma guy back in the early 80s. He knocked on the door of a pipemaker looking for a practice set. ‘i don’t have any now but come back tonight and I;ll have one done for you’ was the reply. And it was.
Yikes, I can’t believe they could wait that long! ![]()
“Those were the days”…
Yes, but is that practice set still playing?
I’ve head that Mr. Ea Bay guy’s pretty quick…
get it? ebay?
sometimes I kill me…
Speaking of Ebay:

Or if you’re really poor:

Call me crazy but I’d probably go for the first one if I were you.
By the way, have you considered David Daye’s pipes? They’ve probably got the shortest lead time (depending on how much spare time you have).
it probably is, but your man got himself a big boxwood Wooff Bflat during the early nineties. if he still plays, it is probably on that one.

Brian Howard tries to keep practise sets in stock. www.howardmusic.co.uk and comparatively little time for half sets, though so many people want the new regs that I’m sure there’s a wait for those.
If you have an urgent need, tell the pipemaker and they might try to accomodate you. I’d try Brad Angus of Vancouver, WA.
Pat Sky too has a very short wait.
PD.
yeah, if you’re really poor AND have a need for a semi-musical inner tube inflator.

Seth’s Gallagher is about 10 months
David Daye? …a matter of weeks? depending
Patrick Sky..I believe Mr. Sky is down to about 3-4 months
Nick Whitmer..3-4 months
Me…between 3-6 months, depending on the order
Marc v. Daal.. ??
Tim Britton.. under 6 months…
Ray Sloan has a relatively short wait list too.
Don’t know if there is any truth to it, but I was told recently that Brad Angus’ wait list was several years long.
Half-set waiting time was about 12 months or a bit less. Ordenerd mine in late October and picked it up in late August the following year. ![]()
…
Contact Brad Angus directly to understand what time commitment is possible as orders from folks change all the time.
Every pipemaker has a waiting list; every pipemaker changes the list from time to time; items are sometimes available when orders change/fall through; sometimes orders can be expedited due to a client’s special needs.
The waiting list system suits a lot of people since it can effectively be a long term savings project. Geoff and Alain’s long lists turned it into a “I wonder if I’ll be alive when the order comes up.”
Marc van Daal
Practise set - 3 months!
Half set - aprox. 12 months
Full set - aprox. 18 months
Edit: made a mistake with full set waiting time.. ![]()
